Fusion 360

How to Download Fusion 360 Designs?

Accessing Fusion Team for Downloads

To begin downloading designs from Autodesk Fusion 360, navigate to the data panel within Fusion 360. Find the design you wish to download and click on the “Open Details on Web” link associated with it. This action will redirect you to Fusion Team, where your chosen design will be displayed.

Exporting Designs from Fusion Team

Once the design is loaded in Fusion Team, look for the export icon located at the top right corner of the interface. Click this icon to bring up a variety of export options. You’ll see a list of available file types; choose the one that suits your needs. After selecting the desired format, confirm your choice by clicking OK in the export dialog that appears.

Downloading Projects from My Hub

For those looking to download multiple project files, access the Autodesk My Hub platform. Here, you can find all your saved projects. Select the specific project you want to download and choose the export option available. Alternatively, you can open the project in Fusion 360 and navigate to the File menu, then select Export. This will enable you to save your project in your preferred file type directly to your computer.

How to Export an F3D File

To export an F3D file (Fusion 360 Archive file), follow these steps:

  1. Open your design in Autodesk Fusion 360.
  2. Click on ‘File’ in the upper left corner of the interface.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select ‘Export’.
  4. In the dialog that appears, click the Type dropdown list and choose ‘Archive Files (*.f3d)’.
  5. Select the destination folder where you want to save the file on your computer and assign a name if needed.
  6. Click ‘Save’ to finalize the export process.

Exporting STEP Files

Fusion 360 provides robust support for exporting designs as STEP files, which is a widely used format in CAD applications. Users can confidently export their designs as STEP files even with a personal use license.

Copying Bodies Between Projects

To transfer a body from one design project to another within Fusion 360, open the design that contains the body you want to copy. Locate the body in the browser panel, right-click it, and select ‘Copy’. After this, switch to the target design and create a new base feature. Right-click in that design and select ‘Paste’ to insert the copied body into the new project.

Downloading Multiple Files

Currently, the only method to export files within Fusion 360 involves accessing an individual file at a time. To do so, ensure the file you wish to export is open, then select ‘File’ from the menu, followed by ‘Export’. After this selection, choose your desired file type and choose a saving location. Unfortunately, there is no built-in function to export entire projects or folders at once.

3D Printing Compatibility

Fusion 360 is a powerful tool for 3D printing. It can export models in formats like OBJ and STL, which are compatible with most 3D printing software. Additionally, the software includes options to print designs directly to 3D printers.

Accessing Archived Projects

If you have archived projects that you wish to access again, visit Fusion Team and navigate to the top menu where you will find tabs for All, Owned by Me, Shared with Me, and Archived. Click on ‘Archived’, find the project you want, and click ‘Restore’ to bring it back into active use.

Inserting Designs into Current Projects

To incorporate an existing design into your current project, use the “Insert into Current Design” function. This will create a new component in your assembly that references the original design file. If needed, you can break this link later by using the “Break Link” command.

Supported Import Formats

Fusion 360 supports a wide range of file formats for import, including:

  • Autodesk Alias (.wire)
  • AutoCAD DWG Files (.dwg)
  • Autodesk Fusion 360 Archive Files (.f3d)
  • Autodesk Inventor Files (.ipt, .iam)
  • DXF Files (.dxf)
  • CATIA V5 Files (.CATProduct)
  • FBX Files (.fbx)
